Overview

Excelsior Sciences of New York is transforming small molecule therapeutic drug discovery with the use of modular chemistry, to make better medicines fast. Excelsior's modular approach leverages smart blocks as the foundation of drug design and synthesis. Our smart blocks and proprietary methodologies enable chemistry that machines can do, rather than building machines that attempt to do chemistry as it is practiced today. By coupling our automated synthesis and testing, we can reduce the design-make-test-analyze cycle to two weeks. This rapid generation of high-quality data allows us to fully leverage AI/ML to create closed learning loops and conduct multiparameter optimization, resulting in better medicines, fast. Excelsior's operations are fully U.S.-based, as our automated approach enables us to onshore integrated drug discovery.

We are seeking a highly skilled bioanalytical associate scientist with a strong background in LC/MS for small molecule and/or ADME analysis to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree and at least 3 years of experience working with LC and Mass Spectrometry technologies. This role involves operating, maintaining, and optimizing High Throughput MS systems for qualitative and quantitative analyses, as well as developing and implementing analytical methods.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Instrument Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain HPLCs and Mass Spectrometers, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Method Development: Develop, validate, and implement methods for analysis and purification of small molecules.
    • Analysis of complex ADME assay samples using RapidFire 400 HT MS and QToF technology.
    • Analysis and semi-prep purification of organic chemistry reactions using single-quad LC-MS and SFC-MS platform.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct data analysis, including peak picking, mass spectral deconvolution, and interpretation of results.
  • Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for high throughput LC/MS analysis, ensuring compatibility with MS systems.
  • Maintenance: Carry out routine and preventative maintenance and minor repairs, coordinate more complex service, of analytical equipment (including LC-MS, prep-LC, KF, SFC, etc) to ensure uninterrupted lab activities.
  • Collaboration and Support: Drive solutions to analytical development challenges for small molecule analytics and ADME assays through active collaboration with cross functional project teams, such as chemistry, biology and AI/ML.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Use of electronic documentation of analytical results, methods, and instrument performance. Communicate project status and issues to the management and other stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Analytical/Pharmaceutical Sciences, ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion), or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience working with LC-MS systems (preferably Agilent systems) ideally with applications for ADME assays and/or small organic molecule synthesis.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in LC-MS software and data analysis tools.
    • Strong understanding of chromatographic techniques (e.g., LC-MS) for small molecule detection and quantification.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automation and high-throughput analysis.
  • Working knowledge of software tools from Agilent (OpenLab, MassHunter) and Virscidian.
  • Familiarity with metabolite identification and profiling studies including knowledge of pharmacokinetic data analysis principles.
  • Experience in separation technologies like SFC desired, but not mandatory.
  • Experience with writing scientific reports and presenting data.
